VolumeForge

Create your first model

This short project takes you from an empty workspace to a saved solid.

Open VolumeForge in a desktop browser. The drawing tools are in the rail on the left. The model tree and file controls are along the top. If you are using a smaller screen, give the viewport as much space as you can.

  1. Choose Draw line from the left rail, or press L.
  2. In the tool options, choose Polygon. Set Sides to 4 and Placement to 2 corners.
  3. Click two opposite corners in the viewport to place the polygon.

The filled shape is a planar face. You can also draw its four edges one at a time. If a closed outline does not form a face automatically, choose Create face (F), select its boundary curves, then press Enter or leave the tool to create the face. Learn more about lines and faces.

Choose Extrude from the tool rail, or press E. Click the planar face and enter 50 in the length field. The length unit follows Settings; choose millimetres first if you want a 50 mm depth. Choose Confirm to create the solid. Use Fit all near the navigation cube if the model looks small. If the tool reports that it needs a valid profile, check that the outline is closed and planar. Read the extrusion guide.

Open the top-right Menu and choose Download VolumeForge file. Your browser downloads a .vlfg design file. Keep it to continue later; choose Menu → Open design to reopen it. See file and export options.
