Extrude a face

Extrude turns a planar face into a solid by sweeping it along a straight direction or along a selected line. It uses the modeling geometry in the design document, so a successful operation creates a solid body you can export.

  1. Draw or create a closed planar face.
  2. Choose Extrude in the left rail, or press E.
  3. Select the face if it is not already selected.
  4. In Method, choose Straight or Along selected line. For a straight extrusion, enter the depth. For a path extrusion, select the line to follow and enter the sweep length. When the path offers different frames, choose whether the profile keeps its original orientation or follows the path.
  5. Inspect the preview, then choose Confirm or press Enter.

The model tree shows the resulting body and feature. You can edit supported dimensions from the feature inspector. Keep original leaves the source face visible alongside the result.

You can also select two or more connected planar profile faces and extrude them together. Extrude joins the selected profiles into one shell, gives that shell the entered depth, and creates one solid. The profiles must meet along their edges; disconnected profiles cannot form a joined result.

If extrusion is unavailable, check that the selected item is a valid planar face and that its boundary is closed. See troubleshooting.
